About Backyard Yuri
This is a web site for Western newcomers to yuri and Japanese media, made by someone who themself is new to the genre. Getting into yuri can be an intimidating task for someone unfamiliar with it or Japanese media as a whole; not only does most yuri come from an entirely different culture, but it possesses an extensive, storied community and subculture as well, so it can feel like there's a lot to learn when you're just starting out! This site's purpose is to make it a little easier for those wanting to get into this incredible genre by posting reviews, resources, and more that are written with potential or aspiring himejoshis in mind. However, I hope my posts will be entertaining to both new and experienced fans alike!
This blog was heavily inspired by Erica Friedman's incredible Okazu site, on which she's been reviewing Japanese and English yuri publications for years alongside a collection of guest writers. I highly recommend checking it out for well-written reviews from an experienced professional!
About the creator
I am the horser, aka equinediaconate (they/them). I recently graduated college with a literature degree and now find myself wanting to put my literary skills to use to create content for things I love. I only recently got into yuri and manga as a whole this June, but have become utterly taken with it. My current favorite yuris are Adachi and Shimamura (for better or for worse), The Moon on a Rainy Night, Not So Shoujo Love Story, and Confessions for a Moron, though I enjoy almost every one I read. I also like horses, vocal synthesizers, and funny little dogs.
